Thank you for your interest in Emancipation Park Conservancy’s Jazzy Sundays event series happening every Sunday in September (5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th) from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Emancipation Park. We are celebrating the legacy and evolution of jazz in Houston and we are happy that you want to participate and join us.
Emancipation Park was founded to create a space for former slaves to build a legacy and celebrate African American property ownership, freedom, and culture. Our mission is to restore, manage, and enhance Emancipation Park to create an open space of environmental and community excellence in Third Ward while continuing to preserve the integrity and historical roots of the park.
To uphold our commitment to an open space of excellence, we have created a selection process to better serve the community. Please note that slots are very limited; we will do our best to accommodate as many participants as space will allow. Although the deadline to submit applications is Monday, September 20, 2021 at 5:00 p.m., slots may fill before then and reach capacity. All applicants will be notified of any updates including, participant selection and approval decision, setup, load-in/out, parking, and other event details.
The first step of the selection process is to submit an online application for review. Thereafter, applicants will be contacted regarding next steps in the process. Selection decisions will vary and be based on applying to be a vendor or community group. Please do not send payment until instructed to do so, as it will not be accepted.
For community groups, criteria include providing free services that align with Emancipation Park Conservancy’s focus of community resources that are beneficial and uplifting. For vendors, criteria include research of brands, ability to meet fee and setup requirements, and type of products for sell. Vender fees must be paid immediately after selected to participate in the event. Our refund policy will be based on participant cancellation. If participants cancel one week before Monday, September 20th, we will issue a full refund. Cancellations less than one week before the deadline will not be provided a refund. Fees cannot be transferred to future events. The fees will cover the cost associated with securing participant site equipment and City of Houston permits. Please cancel in writing via email.
This is a family-friendly event. No inappropriate vending or community group activity is allowed. This includes profanity and attire, which, applies to all applicants and participants. All park rules and regulations must always be followed.
There will be many application submissions and we will work as quickly as possible to notify you by email that your application has been received and is being reviewed.
